Bait
The beach was full of seaweed on Thursday so we drove to Matanzas Inlet. You can get on the beach there and drive around under the bridge to a point just inside the inlet and in sight of Fort Matanzas. The tide was running out. The current was strong when we got there and kept getting stronger but you could still wade out in it without much difficulty. We immediately noticed the mullet running upstream. Just a steady line of them.
The guys in the collage above showed up with nets and started bringing them in. One had a 10' net and the other a 12' net. They would throw into "holes" and bring out nets full of them which they would empty into the laundry baskets and then into a huge tank on the back of their truck. They sell them to a processor who bags them up and freezes them then ships them all over the place. When you can't catch fresh mullet to fish with the next best thing is a "popsicle".
